Things Fall Apart
The only way out is through
Generative AI is forcing us to confront fundamental issues that have been simmering beneath the surface of digital society for decades—trust, accountability, authenticity. The social contract of mutual interdependence. The nature of power and authority.
People are waking up.
We are mourning the losses.
We wonder what went wrong and wish we could go back.
But there is no going back. Only forward.
Grief is complex.
I find myself returning to the writings of Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön, and to my grounding in public theology.
Things fall apart.
It is the nature of the universe, the rhythm of systems in motion.
There is no escape—only a path through. Together.
We hold vigil for what was,
and midwife what will be.
We stand at the edge of twilight and dawn.
Onward.
